The La Jolla Open Aire Market is more than a farmers market- it’s a celebration of local, a gathering place for our community, and a way to support our children’s future.
Our Story
More Than a Farmers Market
The La Jolla Open Aire Market was founded in 1998 by former La Jolla Elementary mom and community supporter, Sherry Ahern. What began as a small effort to raise funds for a school librarian has grown into one of San Diego’s most beloved weekly traditions.
Thanks to the support of the community, local groups, and San Diego Unified School District, our first market opened on October 25, 1998 with 14 farmers and one artisan.
Today, with more than 120 vendors every Sunday, the market not only supports local farmers and artisans-it also funds vital programs and improvements for La Jolla Elementary School.
We are grateful for our amazing volunteers, partners, and customers who make it all possible.
